Manchester United head coach Louis van Gaal would prefer to have a German player as this year’s FIFA Ballon d’Or after their performance which leads them winning the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
In the reports seen on Daily Mail, the Dutch coach made the revelation on Manchester United’s official website saying
‘Most of the time it is always the well-known players [who win the Ballon d’Or, ‘I don’t think you can compare players in different positions.
The former Bayern Munich coach also stated that he believe it will be Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo but want a German player as the winner of the prestigious award.
It is more for the football world and outside world than for other things I believe. I think it will be Ronaldo or Messi but I want to say that you have to win something.
‘And the best thing to win is the World Cup so I hope it will be a German player because they deserve it.’
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are believed to be top contenders after winning the prestigious award four and two times respectively.
The winners of all of the awards will be revealed at the Fifa Ballon d’Or gala as part of a televised show at the Zurich Kongresshaus on Monday, January 12, 2015.
