If there is one thing Nigerians love as much as they love drama, it’s music. It is one of the things that never fails to unite young people around the country, even the world.
ID Africa’s research team was curious about how young Nigerians spent their time online during the COVID-19 lockdown, and so they conducted a survey of 200 young Nigerians and studied the activities of social media users across our platforms – Netng, 234Star, Neusroom, and Orin.
The research findings were based on a survey of 200 young Nigerians and by studying the engagement trends of social media users across our platforms.
Music-based content garnered higher interactions compared to other kinds of content. For example, a quiz asking people which Nigerian artiste should feature Rihanna on a song got over 2,000 engagements in a matter of hours.
A video compilation about seven Nigerian music videos with over 100 million views on YouTube is one of our top-performing videos with well over 34,000 views.
The lockdown also gave birth to virtual music shows like Tory Lanez IG Live called ‘Quarantine Radio’ and the Verzuz music battles. Nigerian artists were not left out as many DJs hosted IG Live music sessions and artists like MI and Naeto C also went head to head with their greatest hits.
