Recently, on behalf of the #ShareKindness campaign, Pop star, Lady Gaga, visited the Ali Forney Center, a shelter for homeless LGBT youth located in Harlem, New York, to share her life experience with them.
She revealed that being kind means a lot to her, ‘Kindness, to me, is an action of love or showing of love to someone else. I also believe that kindness is the cure to the violence and hatred around the world. I like to share kindness in a lot of different ways,’ she said.
She also revealed that she told the children of her mental illness which she struggles with everyday, although she doesn’t have the same kind of issues that they have. ‘I told the kids today that I suffer from a mental illness. I suffer from PTSD. I’ve never told anyone that before, so here we are.’
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental disorder that usually develops after a person is exposed to a traumatic event, such as sexual assault or other threats on a person’s life.
The singer had revealed in 2014 how she was raped at age 19, which she pointed as one of the reasons for her mental illness, and how her family members and doctors have helped her in her battle with the mental disorder.
Gaga also spoke about how she loves to give things to people who have nothing or less than she has. She added, ‘These children are not just homeless or in need. Many of them are trauma survivors; they’ve been rejected in some kind of way. My own trauma in my life has helped me to understand the trauma of others.’
