Liverpool defender, Kolo Toure, has retired from International football following Ivory Coast’s 2015 African Cup of Nations win.
The former Arsenal defender and elder brother of Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure, announced his retirement today, Sunday, February 15, 2015
Speaking in an interview with journalists in Côte D’ivoire, the 2015 AFCON winner said: ‘It is with great emotion that I inform you that it is time to say goodbye.
‘My goal was to win the Africa Cup of Nations and I must admit that it was a very difficult decision to make. I do love my country and especially love football, but at some point, there comes a time to stop.’
Kolo Toure, who burst onto the international football scene in 2000, made 117 appearances for Ivory Coast. He will be remembered as a member of the golden generation of the Ivory Coast team which showed early promise and demonstrated a great understanding of the game across the continent and on the World Cup stage also.
