Ghanaian diplomat and former Secretary General of the United Nations Kofi Annan has died at the age of 80.
Details are sketchy at the moment but the reports are that the Kumasi born Annan passed away this morning in Switzerland.
The official Twitter account of the United Nations Migration Agency revealed the news of Annan’s death.
Kofi Annan served as the Secretary General of the UN from 1997-2006 and was the second ever African to hold that position. In 2001, he received (along with the United Nations) the Nobel Prize for Peace.
This is a developing story. More to follow.
