For the lot who attended actress Joke Silva’s 50th birthday celebration in Lagos yesterday, Thursday September 29, 2011, it was an opportunity to watch the prolific screen goddess renew marital vows with her husband of twenty-five years – Olu Jacobs.
Though well advanced in age, veteran actor Olu Jacobs glowed with joy as he and his beautiful bride repeated after Pastor Tony Rapu of This Present House church, the ‘for better for worse’ commitment. Joke was clad in a flowing Black and White Boubou while Olu wore cream-coloured native attire.
And with that single deed performed before friends, family and well-wishers, the couple put paid to rumours of separation or a falling marriage. Emotional Joke couldn’t help crying after the solemn recital as she exchanged Silver wedding bands with her hubby.
The informal part of the occasion was compeered by the delectable Kate Henshaw while singer Yinka Davies and her band provided music for the night as guests had dinner. There was also a special rendition of Westlife’s ‘Flying Without Wings’ performed by Idols 2007 winner, Timi Dakolo.
Joke’s 85 year old mother was in attendance as well as wife of the Ekiti state governor, Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi among Nollywood celebrities Ego Boyo, Rita Dominic, Kunle Afolayan and Tv host, Adesuwa Onyenokwe. And not even the pouring rain could dampen their joys.
