Jeffrey Daniel, 55, of the Shalamar Group, one of the most successful soul vocal group of all time. The African-American choreographer, performer and song-writer is well known for performing ‘the backslide’, a physically complicated dance technique, now known as the ‘moonwalk’. He was Michael Jackson’s personal chereographer and mentor for many years. Mr Daniel has just been confirmed as one of the judges for the first ever Nigerian Idol beginning next month. He speaks to NET about his fashion sense.
Style
Over the years, my style has evolved from one stage to the other. I’ve been to most part of the world and I try as much as possible to imbibe the culture of the land and infuse it to my own style. I’m a man of change, I go along with what’s in vogue but all the same, it’s just me.
Hair Style
The change in my hair style depends on my mood and my location. I’ve been able to be in tune with what’s going on when it comes to hair styling from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and now the new century which is full of new things and if an entertainer like me fail to inject that into my day to day fashion and style routine, I would have faded off. And I won’t still be relevant in the entertainment world. Moreso, I just want to be unique in whatever I do.
Shades
I do spend a fortune on shades but this one (pointing to his shades) is actually a gift from someone. I don’t go for things because of the brand name or the price. I only subscribe for things that I feel comfortable in and depict my true identity.
Shirts
I’m wearing an Ed Hardy shirt. I just love the tiger on it and the shinny stuff. I look and feel like I’m the wildest being around here. I promise you that when the show (Nigerian Idol) eventually starts, you are going to see another part of me in entirety.
Hat
I go for all sort of head-gear. It also depends on my costume and mood at that particular point in time.
Blings
Yeah, I love shinny things. Take a look at the wears, it all has a touch of blings, my belt is embossed with diamonds and my mobile pouch is made of a leather material with shinny stuff. My wrist watch is diamond plated; my neck chain is not left out. As a matter of fact I really love Blings. People should learn to adjust. I didn’t look like this in the eighties or nineties. Some get stuck with a particular style. No, it’s not supposed to be so. We should try and learn how to change our style often.
Shoes
Like I said earlier, I don’t go for brand. I go for what suits me and portray my identity in a very positive way. I have collections of all set of shoes you can imagine.
