Rapper Jay-Z made headlines recently when his 40/40 Club was shut down for reasons bordering on health-code violations just a day after its star-studded $10M relaunch.
The club was hit with 69 health violations and was closed immediately, after a US health inspector found perishable food at dangerously warm temperatures inside the walk-in refrigerator and discovered ‘hot’ food left out on the counter on Thursday, January 19 2012.
Workers were allegedly seen mixing food with bare hands and in the fridge, was found 50 pounds of raw chicken wings, five pounds of raw shrimp and 100 turkey burgers all at ‘risk’.
‘If you have a walk-in place with food like this, you put a hell of a lot of people at risk’, said a source. ‘A night of dinner and dancing should not include the risk of contracting food-borne illness‘.
The club is still waiting for its health grade code.
The 40/40 Club is a chain of sports bars and lounges owned by hip hop mogul Jay-Z and partners Desiree Gonzalez and Juan Pérez.
Its recent relaunch celebrated the birth of Blue Ivy, the new born daughter of Jay-Z and Beyonce, which had in attendance celebrities such as Diddy, Alicia Keys among others.
