‘I’m Crazy About Lagos Girls’ – Fally Ipupa

One of the fast rising African stars Fally Ipupa, was recently in Lagos, Nigeria for the MTV Live show held at Tribeca on Friday, April 1, 2011. Few hours before the gig, On-air-personality Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, on popular radio station Beat FM 99.9, interviewed the popular singer. Cynthia, the popular VJ at MTV was there to help with translating what the Congolese singer had to say.

We are excited to have you in Lagos; all the girls are crazy about you.

I’m crazy about them too.

I heard that you came all the way from France.

Yes, I performed in Sweden yesterday night then I took a flight to Paris, from Paris I came to Lagos.

Well, welcome and we are glad that you are here. A Lot of girls are excited to see you do your sexy dance tonight. Now speaking of girls, are you dating any girl right now?

All the ladies that want to know if I have a girlfriend should come tonight, I’ll tell them.

We heard that you were dating Olivia of G unit, how true is this?

(Laughs), I don’t want to mix my personal life with my profession.

The last time you were here in Nigeria, it was for the MAMAs and you actually won an award. How did that feel?

I actually won two and it was wonderful. I love Lagos and everything in the city, especially the ladies.

Fally is here for a reason, can you please tell us why?

OK, tonight kicks off MTV Live which is a campaign by MTV and it’s going to be happening throughout this year in pan Africa; south, east and northern Africa will get to feel this concert. It showcases the biggest and the brightest stars in Africa.

Now we’ve been talking about it for a long time. Fally, we were told you are going to  ‘take over’ Lagos tonight alongside our own  2face Idibia and JMartins which is going to be fantastic, and it’s to celebrate MTV Choose or Lose campaign . Why did you decide to be a part of it?

It’s because MTV is one of the African channels that promote African artistes and for me to perform with 2face and JMartins, it is a very great honour because they are my friends and tonight I am going to party like mad with the girls and guys, celebrate and have fun in the Nigerian way.

How did you hook up with JMartins on the track ‘Jukpa’?

I was coming from Los Angeles and JMartins was coming to Paris for a show.  We hooked up, the chemistry flowed, and that’s how we did it. In my country, the music is also booming there. Everybody loves ‘jukpa’ there.

Who are your favourite Nigerian artistes?

I cannot call names but I love all Nigerian artistes especially the new generation, my generation. 2face and I were on the same team on the One-8 project too with R Kelly. I respect all Nigerian artistes.
