Nigerian music star Ayodeji ‘Wizkid‘ Balogun was in the middle of his classic stage moment with his hoodie and shirt off as he thrilled fans in Abuja on Saturday morning, December 18, 2021, when two excited fans grabbed and held on to him at the edge of the stage for more than 30 seconds.
While the globally-celebrated artiste was performing one of the singles from his ‘Made In Lagos’ album at the edge of the stage, he was pulled by his left leg by one of the over-excited fans who managed to crawl onto the stage, while the other hugged him tightly and refused to let go.
Despite the intervention of security guards who rushed to rescue him from the grip of the fans, the two male fans held on to Wiz until he fell on the stage.
The incident caused mild drama on the stage. After he was pulled off from the grip of the fans, one of them ran to the stage again, prompting the security guards to beef up security on stage.
The 31-year-old, who just returned to Nigeria after selling out the O2 Arena in London, appeared not to be surprised by the fans’ action. The look on his face was laughter and excitement.
After he was rescued from the fans, he asked his team to bring one of them back to the stage and promised to give him a gift at the end of the show sponsored by telecom giant – MTN Nigeria.
“Give him water and champagne. I’m going to give you something before I leave here today,” he announced.
About two minutes later, another fan climbed the stage and attempted to run towards Wiz but was quickly intercepted by the guards and thrown off the stage.
After the show, Netng searched for the fan whom Wiz promised a gift, but he told us he didn’t get anything.
The fan who identified himself as Robert Icon, an up and coming music artiste based in Abuja, claimed Wiz’s bodyguard slapped him and prevented him from seeing the singer.
“He didn’t give me anything. Roi, that guy that follows Wiz, didn’t allow me to see him; he slapped me and sent me off the stage before Wiz ended his performance,” Robert told Netng.
