Caitlyn Jenner’s transgender reality TV series – I am Cait – was recently pulled off from its African cable network following a number of complaints by viewers Nigerians.
Multichoice’s DSTV service broadcasts to the whole continent and critics are worried that this decision may be setting a precedent where a single country can effectively decide what TV viewers across the whole continent can watch.
Some Africans (especially the South Africans) came for Nigerians online while others pour out their opinion on the matter…
So the rest of us won’t be able to watch I Am Cait because the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission ?????????

@MultiChoice I’m sorry but exactly why does Nigeria get to say what goes on DSTV for all of Africa? Enabling their bigots… #IAmCait

Multichoice said in a statement that it ‘recognises the importance of respecting the views of a number of its customers and all regulatory environments within which its service operates.
Caitlyn was reportedly paid $5 million for the documentary series which was showing on E! Entertainment Television on DStv channel 124 and GOtv channel 26 before the halt.
Expectedly, there are those who hail the action as the right move – some even calling for more shows to be yanked off;
I Am Cait is the most boring thing on E! and it’s problematic but this sets a precedent. Africa’s largest cable company is transphobic.

I watched an episode of “I am Cait” where trannies were in tears saying they weren’t treated equally, I was as amused as I was irritated.

— Olwen Hendricks (@olwenhoff) May 27, 2016

One would have thought they’d just change the channel and/or set their parental control…
