Friday, November 5 through to Sunday, November, 7 2010 will remain evergreen in the minds of the myriad of Jazz lovers and enthusiasts who thronged the venues of the maiden edition of the Lagos Jazz Series, (LJS), which was put together to ‘revitalize the spirits’ of Jazz followers in the country with soul-lifting live music and electrifying performances by featured artists.
The idea, which is a brainchild of businessman and Jazz enthusiast, Oti Bazunu, was to treat Lagosians and visitors from all over Africa to a series of exciting live and outdoor Jazz performances – in the garden, at the park, and on the Lagos waterfront.
Indeed, no doubt owing to the success of the first edition, as well as sustained appeals for a repeat of the feat, organizers of the epoch-making event have announced venues and dates for the second edition of the Jazz jamboree, which will feature a foremost practitioner of the art on the African continent and a living legend, Hugh Masekela, who has worked with a number of music greats like Bob Marley, Miriam Makeba amongst others.
The four-day musical event, which will kick off on Thursday, November 24 to Sunday November 27, 2011 will also feature the likes of the gifted music producer Cobhams Asuquo, internationally respected singer-songwriter and guitarist Keziah Jones, the delectable Tiwa Savage, pop-soul Jazz singer Bez, whose closing performance last year was described as ‘shattering’. Others also include; UK singer Brigitte Sesu, upright bassist Morrie Louden, who is also making a second appearance and Rwandan-Ugandan singer, Somi.
The organizers of the event have promised a bigger and better show than last year’s, which was backed by major financial sponsors including telecommunications giant, MTN, and for this reason are pulling out all the stops to make the show an unforgettable experience.
