Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni was denied reservations at two hotels in the US over his government’s anti-gay stance.
Texas gay activists in the area forced two hotels to cancel the Ugandan president’s reservations, according to Dallas Voices, a website for the rights of the gay community in Dallas, United States of America.
On an official visit to Dallas, Texas, Museveni had been denied accommodations at the Four Seasons Hotel which was the first hotel he had booked into, then his entourage tried to make another reservation at Gaylord Hotel, but they were again rejected.
Museveni eventually was able to get accommodation at the Howdy Lone Star ranch in Texas, and he confirmed the incident through a statement released on his behalf by Sarah Kagingo, Special Presidential Assistant for Communications. ‘My people made hotel bookings for me, but homosexuals blocked it,’ said Museveni.
Museveni had offended homosexual rights’ groups across the world when he signed his country’s anti-gay bill into law, in February this year. The law imposed harsh penalties for homosexual activities in the country including long prison sentences.
