Edinho, whose full name is Edson Cholbi do Nascimento, was found guilty of laundering money for an alleged drugs cartel.
Edinho was accused of using his father’s name to provide an air of legitimacy to businesses which handled money made through trafficking between 2005 and 2006.
He was recently sentenced by judge Suzana Pereira da Silva in the beachside city of Praia Grande, Brazil, alongside other four gang members.
Edinho was also a footballer but retired at the age of 29, after being convicted of killing a motorcyclist during a street car race. He started his career in 1995 as a first choice goal keeper for his father’s old club Santos in Brazil.
