Nigeria and Seattle Sounders striker, Obafemi Martins today lost the Most Valuable Player of the Year award in the concluding MLS season to Robbie Keane.
The Nigerian striker, fondly called Obagoal by fans, was one of the three players beaten to the award by the former Tottenham Hotspurs striker.
In winning the award, Robbie Keane of LA Galaxy, who scored 19 goals and provided 14 assists, denied the trio of Lee Nguyen of New England Revolution who has 18 goals, New York Red Bulls’ Bradley Wright-Phillips and Obafemi Martins who scored 17 goals and provided 13 assists of the award.
Highly regarded across Europe since emerging a hot football prospect with Inter Milan, Obafemi Martins has played for clubs including Newcastle United, VfL Wolfsburg, Rubin Kazan, Birmingham City, Levante before signing for Seattle Sounders FC in 2013.
