The second round of auditions for the Nigerian Idol Season 7 bettered the first one in terms of the quality of singing of some applicants and, of course, those who came to provide comic relief with their atrocious singing.
Amidst the drama, the story of Joel from Abia state stood out as he defied all odds to shine at the auditions. Joel, who is a stammerer, comes from a family that loves music. His father, who loved to sing in the house, passed away in 2017. The painful demise of his father spurred him to continue to sing, which fueled his music passion.
Joel struggled to get the words out when responding to questions from the host, IK Osakioduwa, but it was a different game when he stood in front of the judges, Obi Asika, Toolz and D’banj. There, the words flowed out of his mouth with ease as he sang sonorously, not missing a beat.
Toolz encouraged him not to hold back and sing with his heart observing that he still has more to give. He also got commendation from the other two judges and got three yeses to pick up a golden ticket.
“I worked really hard to get here”, Joel said, expressing his delight after picking his golden ticket. On the advice he got from Toolz, Joel said he was ready to let it all out and not hold back again.
Nigerians on social media also expressed delight at Joel’s performance, with many saying they were rooting for him.
Nigerian Idol season 7 airs on Africa Magic Showcase (ch 151), Urban (ch 153) and Family (ch 154). However, fans of the show can catch more of the auditions throughout the week on Nigerian Idol Extra (ch 197).
