
The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards held last night at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Beyoncé, who led the nominees list with 11 nominations for her visual album Lemonade – followed by Adele with eight nominations – took home eight awards.
The multi-platinum selling singer took home honours for Best Female Video, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Choreography, Best Pop Video and Breakthrough Long Form Video for ‘Lemonade’.

Queen Bey, who also won Video of the Year for ‘Formation’, broke the record for most VMAs won by a person with 24 wins so far (including the eight from last night), surpassing Madonna’s 17-year record of 20 awards.
‘First of all, I’d like to thank my beautiful daughter and my incredible husband for all of their support’, Beyonce said as she went on to dedicate her awards to the residents of New Orleans, Louisiana, who have been hit with severe flooding in recently.
Beyonce performed five songs from her visual album ‘Lemonade’ over a 16-minute period during the night at Madison Square Garden, singing ‘Pray You Catch Me’, ‘Holy Up’, ‘Sorry’, ‘Don’t Hurt Yourself’ and ‘Formation’ to delight of the audience.
