23-year-old singer, Michael Achu has emerged winner of the maiden edition of the singing competition, Star The Winner Is.
Achu’s victory over his closest rival, Job Emmanuel at the finale last weekend, can only be attributed to fate.
After the two serenaded the audience with their last performances, they were offered a chance to walk away with the sum of N2m or risk losing everything, and an emotional Emmanuel went for the money, making Achu the winner.
Sadly, the results showed Emmanuel had more votes than Achu, and would have won the competition if he had stuck it out.
Achu has now earned bragging rights as the first winner of the competition, taking home a brand new car and N10m.
Other acts who have proved themselves during the show are Brenda, Rhema, Shimar, Daniel, and Roxy, all of whom dropped out in the semi final stage.
The competition, hosted by Uti Nwachukwu began in July and is sponsored by Star.

It was a terrible grand finale. I very much doubt if I’m ever gonna watch another season coz at the end of the day, it boils down to GAMBLING! I expected the grand finale to be about talent. I expected a panel of judges, seasoned members in the industry to take the final decision… I expected a guarantee prize for the runner and an announcement of the real winner! Etc etc. Job’s loss still hurts and honestly, it was uncalled for!! He’s young; I hope this spurs him on to strive harder rather than destroy him. I really hope so.
