It took a late minute extra time goal from 22-year-old Mario Götze for Germany to win the 2014 World Cup tournament in Brazil.
After battling for over 100 minutes of exciting football, Germany beat Argentina with a lone goal to win the tournament, a trophy they last picked up 24 years ago.
Despite Germany’s dominance in the semi-final against Brazil, it was Argentina who had the better chances in the first half – with Gonzalo Higuain grabbing an early goal, only for it to be ruled offside.
It was a power packed match that had everyone on the edge of their seats, including Pop star Rihanna, David Beckham, rock star Mick Jagger, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The match was preceded by a colourful closing ceremony, with performances from Shakira, Wyclef Jean and Carlos Santana.
