Funmi Iyanda has never been one to hold back from expressing her thoughts on topical issues; she has spoken about politics, governance, arts, sexuality and so on at several forums.
Therefore it was nothing out of the ordinary when she tweeted that she saw a psychic who told her she wasn’t the marrying type- and she knew that already.
I had my palm and tarot card reading done yesterday, 1st time. Psychic says l am not the marrying type. I want my money back.

But her opinion about herself didn’t seem to down well with lots of Twitter users who have been sending various tweets to her, ranging from the curious to the incredulous, to the bizzare and the out-rightly disrespectful.
@Funmilola Why Do You Take this decision
— Matilukuro busayo (@Matbusmat) January 18, 2017
@Funmilola I don’t know if your belief is in religion(God) but I think there is more to marriage than making it all a personal decision.

@kazzyodunowo @funmilola True. It’s ok to stay unmarried, but no sex.

— ‘Wale Akinsulire (@akinsulire) January 18, 2017
@Funmilola Really? Why is that? Got problem with men, or the marriage institution? Just asking though
— Chidiebere Nwachukwu (@Lordsanctity) January 18, 2017
@Funmilola do u you have kids or are you not willing to have any?
— Ajibola W. Akinyemi (@ajhibholar85) January 18, 2017
@Funmilola if you choose not to marry, you have to choose not to have sex too. If you do have sex outside marriage, you will go to hell.
— Odunowo Gbenga (@kazzyodunowo) January 18, 2017
@Funmilola tell me you don’t get laid
— Abdulwasi’i Ilyas (@abdelwaasii) January 18, 2017

Not one to back down from a good debate (or a good laugh) she has met these virtual insults with mostly hilarious comebacks and a few classy put-downs.
@iibisallah @Oddy4real eeyah Sadiq, not happy? You want to marry me? Me sef l like myself and would’ve married me but it is not my portion
— Funmi Iyanda (@Funmilola) January 18, 2017
@TousenCollins Thanks a lot. Don’t worry l am fine. I don’t give undue weight to opinion of others over me, good or bad.
— Funmi Iyanda (@Funmilola) January 18, 2017

Not a decision luv, just the way l am. It doesn’t appeal to me. You know how some like coke, some like Fanta and some no soft drinks at all. https://t.co/NZuLuRZFKv
— Funmi Iyanda (@Funmilola) January 18, 2017
This vitriol is not directed at a clearly corrupt, incompetent or inept politician but at a woman simply stating a choice not to marry. https://t.co/PteDGtJ2g8
— Funmi Iyanda (@Funmilola) January 18, 2017
In the light of all of this, please tell us what you think about sex within or outside marriage. Are married people only the ones allowed to have sex? Do unmarried people (either by choice or not being able to) have the right to have sex? Is there anything wrong with not wanting to marry?
