In a landmark celebration of Afrobeats’ global dominance, Billboard has released its first-ever ranking of the 50 Greatest Afrobeats Songs of All Time, spotlighting the anthems that have defined the genre and propelled African music onto the world stage.
Unveiled on Tuesday, August 19, the list pays tribute to the genre’s rich legacy and explosive growth, from Lagos nightclubs to Grammy stages and international charts. Songs were selected based on cultural impact, influence, global reach, and commercial success, capturing both classic hits and modern-day global smashes.
Leading the pack is 2Baba’s timeless hit “African Queen”, widely credited with being a breakout moment for Afrobeats on a global scale. Its blend of heartfelt lyrics and soulful delivery made it a staple across the continent and beyond.
Following closely are Wizkid’s “Ojuelegba”, Flavour’s “Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix)”, Wizkid & Tems’ “Essence”, and Rema’s “Calm Down” to complete the Top 5.
