Director of Fugees’ 1996 award winning music video, ‘Killing Me Softly’, Aswad Ayinde has been sentenced to 90 years in prison for raping and impregnating his own daughters
According to reports by the Dailymail, Ayinde, 55, fathered six children with his daughters from the mid-1980s until 2002 and was charged with 27 counts, including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, lewdness, child endangerment, aggravated criminal sexual contact and criminal sexual contact.
In his defence, Ayinde disclosed that he was trying to create a ‘pure family bloodline’ by impregnating his daughters. He even claimed that ‘the world was going to end, and it was just going to be him and his offspring and that he was chosen.’
In an effort to conceal the family secret, Ayinde’s daughters were home schooled and isolated from other children and in most cases, he delivered the babies himself.
This recent trial for which he has been sentenced to 50 years is Ayinde’s second, which adds to the 40 years sentence he received in a 2011 trial for sexually assaulting a separate daughter.
He was sentenced at the Passaic County Courthouse in Paterson on Friday July 26.
In 1996, Ayinde received the ‘Best R&B Video’ awards at the MTV Music Video Awards for directing the music video for Fugees’ 1996 breakout hit ‘killing Me Softly’.
