Whether turning the buttons on a Digital Work Station or thrilling fans on the biggest stages of all, expect Phillip ‘Pheelz’ Moses to rise to the occasion.
Pheelz graced the BBNaija finale stage on Sunday night — and he ‘finessed’, putting on a performance that lends credence to his diverse and interesting repertoire of talents.
The 28-year-old singer joined a lineup of artistes that includes Falz and Mi ‘The Guy’ Abaga to headline the much-anticipated BBNaija finale show on Sunday night.
With the lineup of stars who lit up this year’s BBNaija finale, the preoccupation of the reality TV show with incubating and promoting young and rising music artistes comes to the fore once more. These headliners, thrilling the audience with performances that are nothing short of brilliant, join the list of musically inclined season 7 housemates who have leveraged the BBNaija platform to sell themselves to over 40 million watchers across Africa.
Pheelz, who has been making waves in the industry, received the recognition he needed in 2012, after working with Olamide to produce the critically acclaimed Baddest Guy Ever Liveth. In fact, the album, in which he produced all but one of the tracks, impressed enough to win him a nomination at The Headies in 2013. Pheelz followed with a similar impression in 2014 as he was also nominated in the Producer of the Year category. His coming-of-age finally got the full bloom as he was nominated for and won the ‘Producer of the Year’ category at The Headies 2020 edition.
To many, Pheelz, popular for his tags ‘Ridimakulayo’ and ‘Pheelz Mr. Producer’ was only a producer and nothing more. However, when in 2022, his ‘Finesse’, featuring Bnxn, debuted on the Billboard Global 200 at number 131, the TurnTable Top 50 at number 1, World Digital Song Sales at number 10, UK Afrobeats Singles Chart at number 1, and the UK Singles Chart at number 52, music lovers saw a side to the superstar that they hadn’t foretold.
Pheelz always had the knack for singing as much as producing, though. In an interview with Guardian, he revealed that singing was his first love.
“I think I have always been a singer. My first placement actually was as a singer; it was a track on Olamide’s album titled, ‘I Am Going In.’ I have always been a singer-producer. I have always sung on my beats, from the beginning. Even when I was making music for church, I would always make the beats, then write and sing the songs. This has been who I have always been.”
The man who wears multiple hats has followed his successful album Hear Me Out with hits such as ‘Electricity’ ft Davido. On September 23, 2022, he made his debut in the FIFA 2023 soundtrack list, joining the train of Nigerian artistes stretching Nigerian music from an unsure export fighting for fame to a global phenomenon that is well sought after.
On Sunday night, the energetic producer and singer first deployed ‘finesse’; then, he dazzled the live audience and millions of viewers with ‘Electricity’, which put fans as well as housemates on a transport of delight.
Of course, at the end of the night, we were left relishing Pheelz’s performance, and the only affair that could match the thrill was Phyna winning the BBNaija season 7 to walk home with the ₦100 million cash prize and a future filled with great potential.
