What do you call a business person with the voice of an angel? You call him Francis Atela, and he is making waves on the Nigerian Idol stage.
Francis Atela is a 26-year-old singer, songwriter, businessman and farmer. Atela is from Benue State, but he was raised and schooled in Jos. His interest in music began from the church choir, and he’s been singing for close to 11 years.
Francis started music professionally when he was signed to a record label, Squeeze Records. Since then, Atela has released many songs like Kukere, Sweet Love, Ojuju Calabar and a radio famous, Jankara. He’s performed at various events, including One Africa Fest 2017.
This isn’t Atela’s first time at Nigerian Idol; he has auditioned twice! First in 2011 in Abuja, then in 2015 in Lagos. But like they say, the third time’s the charm. This win came at an excellent time for him because he told Netng that he had been hoping for a chance to be on Nigerian Idol for a long time.
Since the show’s start, Francis impressed both the judges and the audiences, who look forward to seeing more of him. He received a unanimous ‘Yes’ from the judges during the open auditions with his rendition of Sam Smith’s ‘I’m Not The Only One’ and good wins ever since. Francis hopes that being on the show will give his career a boost and share his music with the world.
The live shows begin on Sunday, May 9, on Africa Magic Showcase (DStv ch 151) and Africa Magic Urban (DStv ch 153), and Africa Magic Family (DStv ch 154 & GOtv ch 2) from 7 pm. Nigerian Idol season 6 is sponsored by Bigi Drinks and Tecno Mobile.
