2008 Star Quest winners, Diamondz, are set to launch two new singles, almost three years after their debut album ‘Bo Sokoto’ was released.
According to the band leader, Bigg Beatz, the new singles titled ‘Take my hand‘ and ‘Pop champagne’ will be out before the end of July.
The band told NET why they’ve been missing from the music scene. ‘We have been chilling back for a while, but even at that we’ve also done a lot of live performances, and we play at weddings, events and more. For a band to continue to function well, you need to think outside the box. The singles will be released under our own record label ‘Diamondz Records’. We have a massive studio in the house, apparently we are still the only functional band under Star Quest after our win’.
The group, which now has five members, including Anthony Nwanne Iwediunor, Ifiok Effanga, Blessed Edewor, Temitope Ogulowo and Ebenezer Ofili said, ‘One of our greatest achievements was when our lead guitarist, Ifiok Effanga played instrumentals for Dbanj’s Scape goat’.
When asked about their performance on Star Trek, he said, ‘Diamondz is an energetic band. Our style at every performance is to always give audience what they want and to relate it with real like situations, just like Chelsea’s win and more. So we try to appreciate them in terms of monetary value, it is just to show them love for their being there.’
He added that they will still be relevant in years to come, as they are not leaving music any time soon. ‘The platform that discovered us is a force to reckon with and as such we will be here for more Star Trek events. We have been here for four years and we will still be here as long as Star and the Nigerian music industry is concerned’.
