Even she can’t believe it. So don’t blame us if we’re still in shock, nearly 24 hours after 2face Idibia asked his lover of many years to marry him.
Wanted by many women, and already involved with more than a few, Idibia finally did what many had expected for years. Now almost 37, the pop icon appears eager to settle down. And we had been told, reliably, that he’d pick from one of his baby mamas. But, what made Ms Macauley the one he chose?
Even Annie herself can’t answer the question, her friends tell us. ‘You know when you really want something, but you believe it can’t happen because it’s too good to be true? Annie is beyond shocked. No one would have ever imagined he would decide to settle with her’ a close friend told us early this morning.
Excited beyond limits, Idibia’s bride-to-be quickly wiped off her tears, and spread the word to those close to her. Then she updated her Blackberry messenger status ‘OMG! I Just Got Engaged to the LOVE of my life’. Her status update soon went viral on social media, even as mixed reactions trailed the proposal.
All through the night, the debate went on: why Annie Macauley? Why not Pero Adeniyi (who is actually due to deliver her third baby for Idibia in a matter of weeks)? Why not Sunmbo Ajaba? How can he be so insensitive to propose to one woman, when another is heavy with his baby?
But those close to the couple are asking: why not Annie, his lover of 13 years or more?
Idibia has dated many women since he hit the limelight with the Plantashun Boiz. There’s been Vien Tetsola, the beauty queen with whom he enjoyed a beautiful romance for years. Then there was Nkechi Okoli, Caroline Ekanem, Cath Taylor, and Kemi Olisaemeka before the days of Pero Adeniyi, Sunmbo Ajaba and most recently Ojia Adamolekun (don’t worry, we’re not going to add Ure Okezie). For each of these public affairs, be sure there were many others, executed ‘under-g’ and known to only the closest Idibia associates. But – the one person that has remained constant through the years is Annie Macauley.
They’ve had break-ups and make-ups since she first came to limelight after appearing in his video for African Queen. She’s dated other guys and tried to move on. But with one step backward and several forward, it just happens that they’re in each other’s arms everytime we look.
Now, the actress has achieved what those close to her say is ‘the dream she thought would never come to pass’.
‘I’m very happy for them’, one Macauley friend told us. ‘I know people are saying all sorts of stuff. But Annie is 2face’s first true love. I always knew he was going to do it. Those two are meant for each other, I don’t care what anyone says or thinks…’
We’re told those who witnessed the sweet moment including Annie Macauley’s mom, her siblings, as well as Annie’s closest friends identified as Stella and Maryann.
And we’ve just been told, by one reliable insider, that Annie’s engagement ring is a diamond-studded piece worth N1m. We’re told the singer got one of Annie’s close friends to buy the ring in Victoria Island, Lagos. And she didn’t say a word to her bestie; keeping Idibia’s secret until he popped the question last night.!
We could not immediately reach the couple for comments. ‘They are probably still sleeping cos they partied till the wee hours’ a close friend told us.

Heard the engagement was bought at Deinte Jewelry Store located at Silverbird Galleria Mall in Victoria Island. My hubby got my engagement ring there too, and I love it!!!!!!!!!
