In yet another incident of online dating-scam, reports say a disabled 54-year-old widow from Winder, Georgia was conned of $500 by a man whom she apparently met on a Christian dating site.
The victim, Jewell Berggrun, said she fell in love with the ‘scammer’ who claimed to be a Texan Businessman operating from Malaysia. Alexi, as he called himself had demanded $8,000 dollars from her, but Jewell was only able to raise $500, which she transferred to him via wire transfer.
Shortly after, helpless Berggrun realized she might have been scammed after she discovered Alexi’s photos on three different dating sites using different identities.
‘I put my heart out there, he took it and destroyed it, and I can’t get any medication or groceries for the rest of the month‘ Berggrun, whose husband died of heart attack years back says.
Authorities have told her it is near-impossible for her to recover her money from the unknown scammer.
