For Clinton, music has always been a part of his life. It is his self-expression, and he’s telling his story with it on the Nigerian Idol stage.
Clinton Francis is a 25-year-old singer/songwriter who hails from Imo State. He holds a degree in Laboratory Science, and he works as an office assistant. From a young age, Clinton has been very active in the choir. Both in church and school. He is also a background vocalist in a gospel band and has performed alongside significant artists at concerts.
As the only singer and songwriter in his family, Clinton hopes to push his music and make a big impact during his time on Nigerian Idol. This isn’t his first Nigerian Idol rodeo; in 2015, Clinton audition for the last season but didn’t make it. That was when he decided to take music seriously.
As a songwriter, Clinton has written several songs through which he hopes to share his story with the world. ‘I don’t just sing,’ he said. ‘I bring out the story in the song. I think I have that unique voice that can pierce someone’s soul. Make people feel a range of emotions from love to sorrow.’
Indeed he does. He has captured the judges’ and audience’s hearts from his first audition where he delivered an emotional cover of Labrinth’s ‘Jealous’, which he dedicated to his mother, who raised him alone after his father abandoned them. He blazed through Theatre Week with a fantastic performance at the first group stage, which made him the sole survivor of his group. Over the past couple of weeks, Clinton has tugged at our heartstrings with his powerful emotive voice.
Now the live shows are here, and Clinton will battle it out with ten other contestants to decide who will be the next Nigerian Idol.
