The head of sports at Channels TV, Joseph Ighile has passed away in shocking circumstances.
Ighile was presenting the 9’O Clock sports programme live on Friday, February 8, 2013, when he said he was feeling uncomfortable and couldn’t continue. Colleagues say he stepped out to get some fresh air when he collapsed.
NET gathered that he was rushed to the hospital where he later died, but Channels TV did not report the circumstances of his death.
We’re told Ighile had just returned from South Africa, where he had been covering the on-going 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Aged 48, the late Ighile was a graduate of the then Bendel State University, now Edo State University, Ekpoma, where he studied English and Literature.
He began his media career at the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) in the early 80s, where he was involved in youth programmes.
He joined Channels Television in 2003 as a reporter/producer, and before his death, he was the head of the Sports desk.
Burial arrangements will be announced by his family.
