It’s double celebration today for Nollywood’s special effects artist, Hakeem Onilogbo who won an AMVCA yesterday, as the popular make-up artist turns 39 today.
And to celebrate him, we’ve compiled some of his most groundbreaking works for your viewing displeasure.
Popularly referred to as ‘Hakeem Effect’, Hakeem Onilogbo was born on March 5, 1978 in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Onilogbo is highly skilled in conventional make-up as he, in almost a decade in practice, has changed the manner and style prosthetic are being used in Nigerian movies.

Hakeem Onilogbo joined the movie industry over a decade ago as an actor, but later discovered his true calling in the area of prosthetic makeup.
Onilogbo is a converted Christian.
In an exclusive interview with TNS, Onilogbo said, ‘God gave me a vision to start SFX after I gave my life to Christ in 2005.’
Onilogbo is the most sought after and highest paid prosthetic make-up artist in Nollywood.
When asked by TNS in 2016 about his charges per movie, the father of one revealed that his pay starts from N150,000 to N2m, depending on the script and demands of the job.

But with an AMAA win in 2016, the recent AMVCA in his shelf and the current recession, we are sure Onilogbo’s charges have skyrocketed.
His groundbreaking works also includes:
1. The first ever non-digital (real life) explosion in a Nollywood movie
2. Creating the first ever prosthetic ‘breathing heart’ in West Africa
3. The first ever practical power launcher effect in the history of Nollywood
4. He is the brain behind Muyiwa Ademola’s ‘insane’ transformation in the movie, Ayelabowo.
5. Murphy Afolabi‘s character’s mutilated body in the movie, KuruKuru.
6. And the gruesome SFX in the award-winning movie, A Soldier’s Story.
Onilogbo has also served as the special effects make-up artist in movies and TV series like Oloibiri, Tinsel, Jenifa’s Diary and upcoming movies like Okafor’s Law, Esohe and Slow Country.
He likes to relax by hanging out with his family.
His turn offs are smoking, drinking and fighting.
