Dinosaur remains have been found in Lagos, and people from all over the world have been shocked by the discovery. While there is still a lot of drama surrounding the manner in which it was discovered, some have been curious as to what to expect now that we know Dinosaurs once threaded along the paths that we now call “Yaba” and “Oshodi”.
Here are five (5) reasons why we shouldn’t be too surprised that dinosaurs were found in Lagos.
- This is Nigeria:
Can any discovery really shock us in Nigeria? This is a country in which absurdity is slowly becoming the new normal. We have snakes swallowing 36 million, Women giving birth to lizards, Speedy Darlington being, you know, Speedy Darlington. At this point, nothing should really surprise us again.
- The Geology Does Add Up
Now if we want to be technical, there is some evidence to support these new discoveries. Without going into too many geological jargons, the subsurface geology of Lagos can allow for Fossils to remains fairly intact for a long period of time and this might be the beginning of more sightings of Dinosaur Bones.
- Once Again, It is Nigeria.
Okay, let’s be honest here, Nigeria has one of the most beautiful and diverse geological landscapes in the world. We’ve been known to have some of the most valuable earth resources including Crude oil & bitumen. Our history suggests that our landmass may hold more secrets that we know and this may just be us scratching the surface.
- Dinosaurs have been found In Africa Before
South Africa & Egypt are some of the African countries where Dinosaur fossils have previously been found. This means that Dinosaur sightings on the continent aren’t so far-fetched. While Africa isn’t the continent that comes to mind when you think of Archeological findings, maybe we haven’t been looking hard enough.
- I Repeat, It is Nigeria.
I cannot emphasize this enough. This country is full of surprises at every turn. Sometimes I think Hollywood producers need to visit Nigeria to get inspiration because we have enough content for an entire movie franchise.
Whether it’s in media, sports, politics or archaeological discoveries, Nigeria is a real live blockbuster movie and this is just another episode. Let’s just sit back relax and enjoy this latest entry.
Recent reports also suggest that the plot is about to thicken, as the land owner identified as Oga Sunday has refused to grant officials permission into the premises till he is given some amount of money.
