Nollywood star Bimbo Akintola has called for increased welfare packages for pregnant women in Nigeria.
The actress made this call along with broadcaster Aisha Falode and lawyer Dolapo Awosika at a recent audition for one of the episodes of Amazons.
According to them, the usual 12-weeks maternity leave given to new mothers is not enough to take care of a new born.
Arguing that leaving a few weeks’ old infant in care of a nanny deprives the baby of motherly care and affection, Akintola urged the government to make provisions such as reduced hospital bills for expectant mothers, and an increased period for maternity leave so that new moms could spend more time with their babies.
Amazon is a show on AIT co-hosted by Bimbo, Aisha and Dolapo, and aired every Friday. Producers say the programme is ‘a show where experiences and opinions are shared, problems are discovered, the truth is revealed and solutions proffered.
