Bearing identical names with a renowned world superstar can be intimidating, but Beyonce is determined to put her best foot forward.
Beyonce Ajomiwe is the youngest contestant on Nigerian Idol at 16. The Port Harcourt based singer’s father is a professional singer and producer, so she’s been exposed to music from a young age, which sparked a passion for a musical career.
At a young age, her love for music blossomed into songwriting. Beyonce has written many songs which she hopes to release as an album someday. ‘Since I was a child, I used to write music,’ she told Netng. ‘My dad is a singer, so I’m pretty sure it’s genetic. I knew since I was a little girl that I wanted to be a singer.’
Besides music, Beyonce also runs a cosmetic and beauty business with her mom. Beyonce has applied for competitions before, but this is her first major singing competition. With a name like hers, she has big shoes to fill, and she’s excited to cement her footprints in the sands of time.
From the first auditions, Beyonce’s star power couldn’t be denied. She scaled through the auditions with ease though the judges need her to come out of her shell more. During Theatre Week, Beyonce displayed personality and vocal talent, which we hope to see in the live show that begins this Sunday.
The live shows begin on Sunday, May 9, on Africa Magic Showcase (DStv ch 151) and Africa Magic Urban (DStv ch 153), and Africa Magic Family (DStv ch 154 & GOtv ch 2) from 7 pm. Nigerian Idol season 6 is sponsored by Bigi Drinks and Tecno Mobile.
