It’s not a mistake that the 5th edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards has been scheduled to hold on July 18, 2015. The date is a special and famous date in South Africa as it’s the birthday of late Nelson Mandela.
Every July 18 is observed as a public holiday in South Africa and the 5th MTV MAMA will be held on this date to honour the late African statesman whose post-humus 97th birthday will around the globe on the day.
Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918 and he died on December 5, 2013 at the age of 95. This year, MAMA 2015 will celebrate African talent across 17 award categories such as Best Male, Best Female, Best Song and Best New Act Transformed by Absolut.
