French footballers, Karim Benzema and Franck Ribery have been acquitted on charges of soliciting an underage prostitute, reports Daily Mail.
A French court ruled that there was not enough proof that the Real Madrid Striker Benzema and Bayern Munich winger Ribery were aware that Zahia Dehar (who is now 21) was a minor at that time. Dehar, a prostitute, prefers to call herself an ‘escort’.
Dehar was said to have flown to Munich in 2009 to meet Ribery. She was his special birthday ‘gift’ and had a separate meeting with Benzema in 2008 as he celebrated his ‘French Footballer of the Year Award’ and told the footballers that she was 18.
Both footballers were absent at the trial and would have spent three years in prison if found guilty.
