MCA better known as Adam Yauch of the US hip hop group Beastie Boys is dead.
The rapper died today, Friday, May 4, 2012 after a long battle with cancer.
A statement confirming the sad news was released by the hip-hop group on its website.
It reads;
‘It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam “MCA” Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer. He was 47 years old’.
Yauch was a practicing Buddhist who worked extensively on behalf of Tibet’s oppressed Buddhist population.
Beastie Boys have released eight studio albums since their 1986 debut and have won three Grammy Awards including ‘Best Instrumental Album’ in 1998.

Just heard about Adam Yauch passing away. RIP MCA. Listening to “Egg Raid on Mojo” as I write. You brought punk rock sensibilities to hip hop…a perfect match. And mega doses of humor! Such a part of my youth. Thank you. You will be missed.
