On Sunday, October 26, legendary musician, activist, and actress Angélique Kidjo received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Best of Africa Awards. She shared the news on Monday in a post, expressing her gratitude and reflecting on her journey as a global ambassador for African art and activism.
Over her decades-long career, Kidjo has amassed numerous accolades. She is a five-time Grammy Award winner and in 2022 made history as the first African artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Beyond her musical achievements, she has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2002, advocating for children’s rights and education. She is also the founder of the Batonga Foundation, which supports the education of young girls in Africa.
The Best of Africa Awards is an annual event that celebrates and supports Africans’ professional, creative, and philanthropic contributions. The awards highlight positive African achievements, challenge stereotypes, and use the reach of music and sport to inspire young people globally.
