Just yesterday, we reported that US Olympic gymnast Simone Biles had also revealed that she was abused by Dr Larry Nassar. Today, another Olympic gymnast, McKayla Maroney is also speaking out.
McKayla Maroney who had previously received a settlement of $1.25 million from USAG had signed a non-disclosure agreement as part of the deal, has decided she still wants to speak up about her molestation. The only problem is that the non-disclosure agreement also entails a $100,000 fine, should she ever speak publicly about the molestation.
She is to join other 88 women who are currently scheduled to deliver victim impact statements at Nassar’s sentencing, which has begun and is set to run through Friday. This is despite the fact that Dr Nassar is already facing a 60-year sentencing for child pornography.
While the sum for the NDA is hefty, media personality, Christy Teigen, and actress Kristen Bell alongside producer Michael Schur took to Twitter to say they will help pay the sum so long as she speaks up.
Chrissy tweeted:
The entire principle of this should be fought – an NDA to stay quiet about this serial monster with over 140 accusers, but I would be absolutely honored to pay this fine for you, McKayla. pic.twitter.com/lsBEgEqZpD

Then Schur quoted her tweet and said:
I’ll split it with you. https://t.co/yp00LwJsNQ

Then Kristen Bell replied to the quoted tweet by Michael Schur saying:
I’ll 1/3 it with you guys. https://t.co/XasgyGEg6E

According to E-News, McKayla sent them a statement regarding the tweet from Chrissy Teigen since she is not on social media that read:
“I’m not on social media right now, but I wish I was for this! I’m shocked by your generosity, and I just want you to know how much hope your words bring to all of us! I just can’t get over the fact that someone I don’t personally know is sticking up for me, let alone a strong woman that I’ve looked up to for years! Thank you, Chrissy, you’re so inspiring, and things are starting to change because of people like you! Just saying that was worth the decision to speak up regardless of a fine. You’re heart pure gold. God bless. All my love, McKayla.”
