I know my people. I smiled as I saw them share video clips of Trump’s inauguration. Comments were made about how the inauguration of the Orange one was a fulfillment of prophecies made long ago.
My people spoke about the deep and heaven-shattering prayers offered by men of God at the ceremony. They spoke about how Jesus was going to use Trump.
Yeah, Jesus – The American Jesus.
American Jesus built the American economy on the foundation of unpaid labour. Men and women were shipped from thousands of miles away to till a land which was not theirs.
In the bellies of those slave vessels, they heard the ship drivers sing songs about ‘American Jesus’. After a hard day’s work, these men and women returned to their cabins and heard songs about American Jesus from their slave masters.
American Jesus led his troops to war against enemies in Europe. On their return to the homeland, he sent whites to the right and blacks to the left. On the right were housing loans, mortgage systems, education, and the foundations of generational wealth. On the left were lynching, redlining, mass incarceration, and ghettos.
American Jesus loves to take credit for the work of others. It constantly seeks to interpret history in its own light.
Martin Luther King alongside other men and women stood, walked, screamed and fought against systems put in place by American Jesus. When the system found out it was on the wrong side of the fence, American Jesus hopped over it. Suddenly, it became a historian that lectures and faithfully reminds everyone of ‘How to be like MLK’.
Beyond the love for weapons, American Jesus loves Weaponization. It takes the simplest of human issues, opens the floodgates of divine damnation and recruits supporters for crusades.
Weaponization has been unleashed on Climate Change, Vaccines, School Curriculums, Reproductive health, Social Security, the state of the Hymen and Holiday Greetings. Where a cause lieth not, American Jesus will go to the ends of the earth to find it and unleash it against the defenseless.
American Jesus is a bundle of contradictions – a hymn and a drone shooting at you from the sky, a love of democracy and the scuttling of democracy in lands far away, sending men to the moon while denying children their vaccines, In God we Trust while depriving citizens of Health care, the love of life in the womb and the hatred of life outside the womb.
The triumph of American Jesus over other systems of control is because of its evolutionary mechanism and predatory nature.
It rides on the back of Democracy and Capitalism and is transmitted to far away lands through satellite television.
You don’t have to look too far to find it. The foot soldiers of the system are often read in books, seen on T.V Screens and heard at Church conferences near you.
