Just like when Beyonce‘s ‘Bootylicious’ was added to the dictionary, Oxford on June 1 formally added Eminem‘s ‘Stan’ to the dictionary.
‘Stan’ comes from the award-winning rapper’s 2000 song of the same title which featured Dido.
That said, the word had already been in use; majorly among Eminem fans who referred to themselves as Stans.
As a noun, ‘Stan’ is ‘An overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity,’ while as a verb, it is to ‘be an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity.’

‘Stan’ the song was about … an obsessive fan of Eminem who sent a series of letters detailing his love for the rap star and relationship issues.
The letters take a dark turn and eventually end with Eminem writing a reply to the fan, trying to caution him to love his girlfriend more and not do something reckless.
Unfortunately, the fan ends up locking his pregnant girlfriend in the trunk of his car before drunk driving off a bridge.
No Fields Found.
