‘AGN did not neglect Muna Obiekwe’ – AGN official

Several reactions continue to trail Nollywood actor, Muna Obiekwe’s death, with most focused on the cause of his death and the manner in which he died. With pictures emerging of the actor undergoing a Dialysis session, many have come out to say his colleagues abandoned him at the time of need.

Among those who implied that are actresses, Dayo Amusa and Ify Okeke while paying tribute to the late actor on social media.

NET’s efforts to get a direct reaction from the AGN president, Ibinabo Fiberisima up until the time of going to press yielded no results as she refused to pick her calls and did not respond to a text message on the matter. A visit to both the national and state offices of AGN in Surulere, Lagos also did not yield any results as all the executives were said to be unavailable at the time of visit. Sources however revealed that they were all out on politics related activities. In particular, Ibinabo and her exco members were reportedly away in Abuja campaigning for Goodluck Jonathan.

We were however able to get across to Moji Oyetayo, the PRO of the Lagos State chapter of AGN after several calls. Moji, who is better known for her role as Mama Ajasco, disclosed to NET that the AGN did not at any time neglect Muna Obiekwe. According to her, the AGN has an insurance scheme for all its members who are expected to revalidate their membership in order to tie in to the scheme.

‘So many artistes are lackadaisical about revalidating their membership and the truth of the matter is that, we can’t help anyone who is not on the plan. Anything regarding an actor’s medical bills is fully taken care of under this plan. We’ve had instances of several actors who had needed assistance and had been fully taken care of because they were under this health scheme.

‘I do know that Ibinabo was in touch with Muna, but I don’t have details of what she did for him personally.’

When asked to confirm if Muna updated his membership and was qualified for the scheme as a result or not, Moji said she would need to fully clarify things with the AGN president before speaking authoritatively on that. She has since not answered or returned her calls since then.
