
The organisers recognised Tinubu’s contribution to the entertainment industry especially his partnership with the producers of ‘Fela! On Broadway’ and his promotion of the Eyo festival in Lagos.
The award was by the Director of Social Affairs of the African Union, Ambassador Olawale Maiyegun.
The one-time Senator of the federal republic and two-time Lagos governor, while thanking Africa for recognising him, called for a minute silent for the lives that were lost during the recent Paris attack.
‘Tonight we are demonstrating to the world that culture and talent is a unifying factor. This is a demonstration that African youths are the future and can do more in uniting the continent with our culture. We can eradicate poverty by supporting and promoting our talents,’ Tinubu said in his affirmative speech.
He said further: ‘Nigeria’s GDP has increased tremendously as a result of the contributions of entertainers.’
The national leader of the ruling APC also commended the organisers of the event. ‘AFRIMA has shown the sense of cultural value that we can get forward if we forge together.’
Tinubu was joined on stage by top politicians and entertainers, which include Commissioner for Information in Lagos, Steve Ayorinde, Kunle Afolayan, Gbenga Adeyinka, Kemi Nelson among others.
