Syli Stars of Guinea will now progress to the next stage of the 2015 African Cup of Nations after the country was favoured over Mali in the drawing of lots conducted just minutes ago.
The two teams had ended their group stage fixtures with 3 points each after their 1 – 1 draw in the last group match on Wednesday, January 28, 2015. With the two teams also having ended with the same goal difference, the drawing of lots became the only way to choose the team that would face Ghana and it is Guinea.
With the turn of events, as heartbreaking as ever for Mali, especially their veteran captain, Seydou Keita who lost a penalty kick which would have ensured his team’s automatic passage to the quarter final, Guinea joins Ivory Coast as the countries through from group D.
Guinea will face Ghana in their next match, hoping to triumph over the Black Stars who endured a scare to make it to the quarter final.
