Everton striker Victor Anichebe believes that the Super Eagles can go far in the on-going African Cup of Nations tournament.
Anichebe who isn’t participating in this year’s tournament says that the Super Eagles haven’t done well in previous editions of AFCON but he believes that they will go far this time around.
‘We haven’t done as well as past generations have but we are in a transition period. Ivory Coast, Ghana, there are a lot of good teams, even some of the teams you wouldn’t expect can do well‘, said Anichebe.
‘I have got good friends there (in Super Eagles), like Victor Moses and Mikel Obi, and a lot of others as well. I want them to do well and it will be great for Nigeria if they can because last time they weren’t in the competition‘, he further said.
The Super Eagles contingent to the Nation Cup has a sizeable amount of local based players. Victor Anichebe believes that the inclusion of home based players would help the transition phase the Super Eagles are currently undergoing.
‘It’s great for the tournament that Nigeria are in it and it’s good for the team. We are in a bit of a transition period and trying to bed in some new players which is great. They have called up some home-based players which gives Nigerians hope‘ he said.
