Veteran Ghanaian actor Akwesi Asamoah, better known as ‘Big Akwes’ has been banned by the Film Producers Association of Ghana for accusing producers, directors and actors of having sex with actresses before giving them movie roles.
The actor made the allegations in a recent video interview with Royal Television (RTV) and said he would cast a spell on whoever denied the claims.
After the interview was aired on Saturday, September 20, 2014, the Actresses Association of Ghana, led by actress Mercy Asiedu, issued a letter to the actor to retract his statement within three days, but the controversial actor declined, instead reiterating his claims.
Shortly afterwards, the Film Producers Association of Ghana, in a statement with the subject ‘Suspension of Engagement of Service’ and signed by FIPAG General Secretary, James Aboagye, Asamoah’s suspension was announced.
The letter states: ‘FIPAG has therefore sanctioned him for a period of twenty four months effective September 23, 2014. Any FIPAG member, Marketer or Distributor who engages his service as an actor or either wise does so at his or her own risk.’
