Nigerian Idol season 6 is gradually winding up and a whole lot has happened so far.
From the exciting performances to the downright hilarious ones and the blunt criticisms from the judges, it’s been a rollercoaster season for the thousands of contestants who auditioned and the viewers alike.
Here’s what we have learnt from the show so far.
- It Takes More Than Vocal Talent To Be A Superstar
It takes more than just having the “voice” to become the next big star. You need to possess the right attitude, be eloquent, and also have the right amount of confidence and character.
- Nerves Could Be The Death Of You
It’s a very tough competition, so it’s not enough to come in prepared, you should be over-prepared. There were contestants who cracked under pressure or the ones who let their fear get the best of them. This is why having a good singing voice is not enough. Nervousness will make you crumble like a pack of cards.
- There’s No Margin For Error
On the Nigerian Idol stage, it is either you step up or get off. There are no second takes, there is no time for a replay. We saw contestants crying on stage begging for a second chance, but sadly, you get only one shot at fame.
- The Judges Are Not Your Parents
There were many reactions to the scathing criticisms doled out to contestants by the judges. On social media, people stated that the judges were being too harsh. But the harsh truth is that the judges are not your therapists, and they are not there to babysit you. They are there to tell you the truth.
- Improve Yourself Daily, You Never Know When The Opportunity Will Come
The truth is that there is life beyond Nigerian Idol. So, when the judges tell you that you need to do better, don’t feel bad about it. Just take the right steps and keep training and improving yourself. You never know when another opportunity might come your way.
- Drop The Bad Attitude At Home
We saw some contestants who looked down on others and considered themselves too good to take the coaches’ feedback. Well, we saw how that turned out.
- Be A Team Player
No man is an island and beyond having talent, you need to be able to work with other people. We all saw how the good team players shone brightly during the theatre week when the contestants were split into groups.
- Don’t Over Do, Keep It Simple
As much as you want to go all out, it’s equally okay to just be simple. When you do too much and get too extra, instead of producing the “wow” effect, you might end up shooting yourself in the foot.
