The AMVCA 2016 has come and gone, but there are some fashion lessons I will never forget.
-Never Copy & Paste Because Thou Shalt be Caught – Kehinde Bankole

The danger of copying and pasting a look as we saw in the case of Kehinde Bankole is how fast people can remember who wore that look and God helps you if you don’t outdo or match the person you copied from, you will voluntarily make yourself at best a meme for ‘who wore it better’ or at worst ‘When you tell your Nigerian tailor to sew you a Hollywood dress’.

Be very sure of the dress code; Never be an Ini Edo, ask if you need to
When it comes to fashion, being a celeb won’t help you get away from the fashion police, instead it makes you a magnet as we saw in the case of Ini Edo.
So the AMVCA is approaching, I think the best thing to do is ask. You don’t want to embarrass yourself by asking? Get a stylist! Because in the end you will be embarrassed anyway.

Yes a designer may be great in his art, but that does not mean he knows the best dress for an occasion, I don’t blame him he learnt how to sew and design so don’t burden him with more.
If you ask me I will say that Ini’s dress would have been awesome for a costumed themed party not a party where every lady wants to showcase their ‘assets’ and beat the next lady’s look while at it.
After-Party is not the time to look like a driver, sorry Bishop Imeh
Yes on the Red Carpet I was so proud of the ‘Viral’ Bishop, but just some minutes after the show I just couldn’t believe what I saw, but the occasion hasn’t ended, I kept wondering… In a split second he was asked to join a photograph and lo I looked on I wasn’t seeing my favourite comedian, No! It was as if a driver had taken his place.
Immediately I said to my self, after-party doesn’t mean the show has ended, and if at all I have to make an appearance, I have to make it count. I don’t want to be another Bishop the driver’ sorry Bishop Umeh.
It’s never too much to go the extra mile – Genevieve Nnaji
As great as Genevieve Nnaji’s look was, it failed the Camera Test though we saw how good it looked on Video.

Yes she’s one of my favourite Nollywood stars but it took me a while to take in the fact that the cameras weren’t doing justice to the dress she wore. I wasn’t happy knowing one of my favourite stylist’s work was also at stake. Thanks to the video camera that came to the rescue. But what if there wasn’t a second chance? She wouldn’t have been able to enter the best dressed list? After having one of the top style personalities in Nollywood, I realized I can never leave things to chances, never again!
It’s once in a year, make it count! Thanks Mercy Aigbe
The first and arguably the best look of the night. Some might say she’s obsessed but I think this trait is needed for an occasion of that magnitude. It was as if she carefully studied the event and planned accordingly. Even ‘haters’ will agree you will have to dig deep to find any fault with her look. I was impressed, I wasn’t surprised. If have another chance to attend the AMVCA again, I will make it count!

You can save cost and time with a 2 in 1 look – Nse Ikpe Etim
A lot of people think Fashion is all about the money, but it’s a different ball game if you are smart. Nse is smart! That 2-in-1 look on the red carpet and onstage was a hit for me. Not many people noticed but some of us do and applaud the fact that she was able to pull it off
I intent to dress smart even for a grand occasion like AMVCA whenever I get the call. Thanks Nse for the tip.
Always dress the part – Adesuwa dressed for the Win!
You need to see the shock, the surprise, she wasn’t expecting it, but by the time she got to the stage, we all knew she was dressed for it.

Now that’s one thing I will always remember. Aside the skill at work people see by just looking at you that you are up for the job. Congrats Adesuwa you will never know how much you imparted even before uttering a word.
