For some years, we have noticed that black women are going back to rocking their natural hair. As a result, more and more women ask about the best way to make the transition from relaxed hair to their natural tresses.
Making the transition from chemically treated hair to natural can be pretty difficult, especially when you have to make the big decision of going for the big chop and losing hair length.
See ways you can transition to natural hair.
1. Cut off relaxed hair

This is the fastest and boldest way to make the transition. You can just visit a saloon and tell the stylist to cut off all of the permed hair or you can do it yourself.
2. Sisterlocks

Sisterlocks is one of the best ways to make the transition. Sisterlocks can be done with your natural hair, leaving the relaxed hair in place. Gradually, the relaxed hair is trimmed away. Sisterlocks are similar to traditional dreadlocks.
3. Teeny weeny afro

Instead of removing all of the permed hair completely, you can rock a small afro for a while.
4. Braids or extension

One way to maintain your length while you transition is to have hair either artificial or extensions braided into your own hair. This will mask the difference in texture between your new growth and the permed hair and give you length while you are growing in enough natural hair.
5. Straw set

This is a nice styling option if you want to hang onto your relaxed hair. The tight curls hide the different textures between your roots and ends less noticeable.
