It’s women o’clock and the Oscars were right on time to prove it.
On a night when the most outstanding talents in Hollywood’s history were celebrated, one glaring feature was how the way women recorded the highest winnings in the history of the Academy Awards.
It is quite exceptional to note that women took the centre stage as they shone in fifteen different categories, more their male counterparts did.
Ruth Carter made history as the first black woman to win best costume design at the 2019 Oscars while Regina King and Olivia Colman came out tops in the acting categories.
Women thus remained atop the winning lists picking up a record fifteen trophies with out of a total 39. This is in sharp contrast with the 2018 edition where women took only six to men’s thirty-three.
Popstar, Lady Gaga gave a memorable performance of “Shallow” from A Star Is Born with Bradley Cooper as she gave an emotional speech while receiving her award.
Gaga who thanked her family shared the following inspiring words: “If you are at home, and you’re sitting on your couch and you’re watching this right now, all I have to say is that this is hard work. I’ve worked hard for a long time, and it’s not about winning. But what it’s about is not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it. There’s a discipline for passion. And it’s not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or you’re beaten up. It’s about how many times you stand up and are brave and you keep on going.”
