Idris Elba hosted the Africa Day benefit concert and he delivered some powerful statements of Africa and its people. He encouraged everyone to tap into the energy of love and hospitality. He called Africans resilient people with big hearts and said that this was the perfect time for our strength and ability to support each other to rise up.
He acknowledged that Africa is leading the charge for setting the international sound and mentioned that artists out of Africa have hit songs all over the world. He encouraged people to donate to the relief funds and even if they couldn’t, help in other ways like providing food, shelter who those in need. He quoted a saying from the late South African revolutionary Nelson Mandela which says, “Sometimes, it falls upon a generation to be great”.
“You be the great generation, let your greatness blossom. Of course, the task will not be easy, but not to do this will be a crime against humanity. Of which I ask all humanity to rise up”. He closed the ceremony with a charge to people, urging them to be the greatness in their communities.
